What is a bmi?
Body mass index (BMI) is a screening measure calculated from weight relative to height. It can help place adult measurements into broad categories, but it does not directly measure body fat or distinguish muscle from fat. Adult categories are not intended for children, pregnancy or individual diagnosis.
Formula and calculation method
BMI = weight in kilograms ÷ height in metres squared. Standard adult screening categories are under 18.5, 18.5–24.9, 25.0–29.9 and 30 or higher.
